Sub-limit

A sub-limit is a cap inside a health insurance policy that restricts how much the insurer pays for a specific item, even when your overall sum insured is far larger. Room rent is the most common, often set at 1% of sum insured per day. Sub-limits matter because breaching one can scale down the entire claim proportionately, not merely the capped item. A policy with a large sum insured but tight sub-limits can still leave a heavy out-of-pocket bill. Check room-rent, ICU and disease-wise caps before buying, through IRDAI-licensed advisors.
