Health top-up

A health top-up is a policy that begins paying only after your medical costs cross a fixed threshold, called the deductible, within a policy year. Because it ignores everything below that line, it costs far less than a base policy of the same sum insured. A super top-up counts the deductible across all claims in the year; an ordinary top-up applies it to each claim separately, which is weaker. It is a common way to raise total cover economically above an existing policy or employer cover. Match the deductible to what your base policy actually pays.
