CIBIL score

A CIBIL score is a three-digit number between 300 and 900 summarising your credit history, produced by TransUnion CIBIL — one of four RBI-licensed credit bureaus in India. Lenders use it to judge repayment behaviour. Payment history and credit utilisation carry the most weight, and a single missed EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) can cost dozens of points. Scores above roughly 750 usually reach the best rates, though every lender sets its own cut-off. Checking your own score is a soft enquiry and does not reduce it. You may claim one free report a year from each bureau.
