Insurance
Riders
A rider is an optional add-on that extends a base insurance policy, bought when the policy is issued or at renewal for an extra premium. Common examples include critical-illness cover, accidental-death benefit and waiver-of-premium. Riders usually cost less than a standalone policy because they attach to underwriting already done. Each rider carries its own conditions, exclusions and claim rules alongside the base policy's terms — a rider does not inherit the base policy's definitions, so read it separately. Discuss suitability through IRDAI-licensed advisors before adding one.
